Local Screen Limitations

Live view, recording search, camera and action setup, and face and vehicle registration work the same as with remote access. The differences are:

  • Phone notifications: Phone notifications are sent through your Litmus account, so you can add a Phone notification action only after you connect a Litmus account. Until then, Litmus account required appears under Phone notification, and clicking it opens the Remote access window. Play media, Read text aloud, Telegram, Webhook, Home Assistant, and Zigbee actions work without an account. Telegram needs the device to be connected to the internet, and a webhook needs the device to be able to reach the address you entered.
  • Media files: For Play media, you choose the path of a file on the device instead of uploading one. The burglar alarm siren included with Litmus (Siren (burglar alarm).mp3) is selected at first. The 14 default sounds are in the sounds folder of the Litmus installation (Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Litmus NVR\sounds, Linux: /usr/share/litmus/sounds, macOS: Litmus NVR.app/Contents/Resources/sounds).
  • Places: The local screen shows only the place on this device. You can rename it, but adding, duplicating, and deleting places and the trash are available only with remote access. After you connect a Litmus account, Multi-site view in the place menu opens at app.litmusnvr.com in a new tab. Until then, it shows Litmus account required, and clicking it opens the Remote access window.
  • Device Manager: Device Manager has no Add Device or Disconnect option, because the local screen is always connected to this device.
  • Updates: Update notifications appear only when the device is connected to the internet. Updating works the same as with remote access.
  • Internet access: The AI models for person, face, and vehicle detection, license plate reading, and Read text aloud are downloaded once, the first time each is needed. Connecting a Litmus account and phone notifications also need an internet connection. Help (this manual) in the account menu also requires an internet connection.
