What Litmus Needs
Litmus has three parts: a device, cameras, and the app.
| Component | Role |
|---|---|
| Device | Analyzes video and stores recorded video, photos, and face data. One device handles multiple cameras. |
| Camera | Sends video to the device. |
| App | Shows live video, sets up actions on detection, and searches recordings. The same features work in a browser and on a phone. |
Before you begin
- Connect the Litmus device to power and to your network. We recommend a wired connection.
- Have each camera's address, username, and password ready.
- To watch from anywhere or get phone notifications, have a Litmus account ready. You don't need one if you use Litmus only on the same network (see Using Litmus Locally and Remotely).
- To receive phone notifications, install the Litmus app on the phone and sign in with the same account.
Where data is stored
Place, camera, and action settings, along with camera passwords, are stored on the device. Your Litmus account stores the list of places and the devices linked to them. When a phone notification is sent, its attached photo passes through the Litmus server on its way to the phone. Telegram and Webhook actions do not pass through the Litmus server; the device sends them directly to Telegram or to the address you entered.
